Why it exists

Pulling audio out of a video is a solved problem. It should be one paste and one click. Instead the search results for it are full of pages that want you to sign up, sit through a countdown, or install a browser extension from a company you’ve never heard of, all for something a command line tool does in two seconds.

So this is the version we wanted. Paste, pick a bitrate, download. There is no second download button that’s really an advert.

How it works

When you submit a link it’s checked in your browser first, so a typo or a YouTube URL never leaves your machine. Valid links go to our API, which looks up the post’s public metadata (title, handle, duration, thumbnail) and sends it back for you to confirm before anything gets downloaded.

Press download and a second request pulls the best available audio stream and pipes it through ffmpeg, encoding to MP3 with LAME at the bitrate you picked, 44.1 kHz. That output streams to you as it’s produced. Nothing is written to disk at any point, which is why there’s no history to clear and no file sitting around for anyone to find later.

What it doesn’t do

• No accounts. We never ask you to sign in anywhere, least of all to Instagram.
• No stored media, and no log of which links you submitted.
• No getting around privacy settings. Private stays private.
• No data selling. Ads pay for the servers, and that’s the whole model.
